World Travel 2013-2014, Transit to Phnom Penh

Today will be a short post, as the majority of the day was spent in transit from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh on one of the local private buses. It was an interesting experience to say the least, as we were two of only 5 or so foreigners on the bus in total. Needless to say, we attracted a bit of attention, in particular with the kids. There was one boy in particular who on walking past our seats on the bus just completely froze and couldn’t stop staring at me. Even saying hello didn’t seem to break him out of it. I imagine he was thinking things like ‘who’s that, why does she look weird/different to us’. Eventually he snapped out of it and moved off the bus, but the lunch break wasn’t any better – definitely had a lot of people staring while they were eating their lunch. Have to admit at one point I nearly fled back to the bus to hide from some of the stares! When even the monks are staring at you, you know you must be a weird sight…
