World Travel 2013-2014, Non Korean Food… In South Korea

What can I say. We haven’t really snacked or eaten much dessert foods while we have been in South Korea; however, we have tried a few meals which aren’t Korean.

As you can see from the featured image, we actually tried some Japanese food while we were in South Korea. This was a bit by accident as we can’t read Korean, but we ended up with a rather nice meal. I would have to say the food in Japan in this case is better (which you would hope it would be); however, it was a nice meal and a special treat for Valentines Day. The eel was nicely done, and overall it was a delicious dish – just needed a little less sauce over the rice so the rice didn’t get as soggy towards the end of the meal.

Another non-Korean meal we tried out was Chinese food. From what I’ve heard jjajangmyeon is a popular dish to eat in South Korea, even though it is originally a Chinese dish. It took us a little while to find a Chinese restaurant serving the dish (challenging when you’re a slow reader!) but eventually we had some success and found a restaurant.

Jjajangmyeon is a cheap meal, and seems to be priced at around 4,000 won (around $4 AUD). To accompany the meal, we ordered some dumplings as well (can’t beat dumplings). These were fried so personally I found them a bit on the too oily side, but Takeshi enjoyed them.

Finally, a picture of one of the very few desserts we ate in South Korea. I had heard that the toast was a little bit different, so of course we had to try it. We tried the Maple and Cinnamon dessert toast from a cafe not far from the N Seoul Tower walk. It was actually a rather nice dessert (much better than I thought it would be); however, I think you need to ensure the proportion of toast to the topping and cream is correct – too much bread and it would become too much. This one was rather nice though as the bread was extra crunchy and the bread wasn’t too thick. A perfect sized dessert to share with someone.
