Road Trip to Uluru 2010, In the Outback

So it’s been a long time this trip, but seeing as we’re on break in Australia at the moment from our World Travels I thought I’d dig out some old photos.

In 2010, Takeshi and I did a bit of a road trip from Adelaide up to Alice Springs to visit Uluru. It was certainly a bit of an adventure. We travelled by road from Adelaide to Alice Springs in a mini van along with several other backpackers, stopping in Coober Pedy for the night before heading onto Alice Springs the next day.

Alice Springs is a rather typical Australian rural town from what we saw, although it is a bit different to my home town (although an island is going to be very different to a desert town…). The view from the lookout point is definitely worth visiting if you’re there, and as part of our tour we also headed out to the School of the Air which was really interesting.

Anyway, here is a few pictures from our time in the outback. While we were in Alice Springs we did a package tour which took us around Alice Springs as well as out to Kata Tjuta and Uluru. We were able to walk a bit of the walking trails at Kata Tjuta, visit Uluru at sunset and climb Uluru later in the day as well as walk through Kings Canyon. It was an amazing tour and would highly recommend the helicopter flight over Kata Tjuta and Uluru (we did this on one of our free evenings from the tour) as well if you get the chance. Like the helicopter ride through the Grand Canyon or the balloon flight in Turkey, it’s an amazing experience and definitely worth it.
