Vietnam & Indonesia 2015, Exploring Prambanan

Today was spent wandering around Candi Prambanan, and the other temples within the compound area. Takeshi and my favourite temple was definitely Candi Sewu at the end of the complex. It was beautiful with lots of carvings. The complex area wasn’t as big as I thought, and didn’t take all that long to walk around. There are a few smaller temples within the complex but Candi Sewu and Prambanan are the biggest (and best preserved) by far.

Prambanan is the main temple that people visit for. It’s worth climbing into the main temple and taking a look at the various statues that are in each of the north, south, west and east alcoves at the top. Make sure you take plenty of sunscreen and a hat as there isn’t a lot of cover within the complex area. You can catch the local bus out to the temple which is a bit of an adventure – we didn’t find it to be an issue, but if you don’t like the heat (or crowds) it might pay to find a different means of transport!
