India & Taiwan 2018, Exploring Delhi

Day 2 of the tour started and it was a busy day.

First stop Jama Masjid for a quick (very very quick) run around to barely see the area and then it was immediately out and onto a rickshaw for a quick ride across to the spice market. Wasn’t great timing as everything was shut so personally couldn’t see much point in that little side trip…

After that it was onto Raj Ghat which was the cremation place of Gandhi. From there it was onto Humayun’s Tomb which was a beautiful building and surrounding gardens (fun fact, it was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent). From there it was onto Lodhi Garden which also had some beautiful buildings and gardens before we went back to the accommodation area to visit the Lotus Temple. Couldn’t take any photos inside as it’s an active temple, but if you get the chance to visit the ceiling design is impressive. Final stop of the day was Qutub Minar which is a 73 metre tall minaret. The minaret as well as the complex around it is incredibly beautiful with all of the carvings on the stone work.

Favourite spot of the day would probably have to be Lodhi Garden. The carvings on some of the buildings were amazingly intricate, and the gardens were extensive. Would have been lovely to spend more time there wandering around.

Phew, long day. Wasn’t much in the way of breaks other than jumping in the bus either so we’ll see what tomorrow brings.
