Kodomo no Hi Matsuri – The Children’s Day Festival
Today was the 2013 Kodomo no Hi Matsuri or Children’s Day Festival. This festival forms a part of the Golden Week in Japan (a series of public holidays), and is celebrated on the 5th of May each year. The koinobori (carp shaped) kites are a symbol of this festival where all children and their happiness is celebrated.
This year, the festival was held at Cowandilla Primary with a variety of stalls, origami and calligraphy stations, ikebana and bonsai displays as well as kimono wearing, cultural displays and martial arts demonstrations.
We had fun wandering around and watching the martial arts demonstrations, and it was great getting to see some old friends from my Japanese classes again!
