New Zealand 2013, Wrap Up

  • Overall what we did: 8 days split into: 2 days in Auckland, 1.5 days in Coromandel Peninsula, 1 day in Rotorua, 2.5 days in Taupo and a day in Waitomo in January 2013
  • Favourite part of New Zealand: The incredible scenery. Certainly very different to the Australian landscape
  • Key tip: Again, no major key tips here – if you have Australian passport it’s super easy to get through immigration though which is awesome
  • Cultural points:
    • Culture: No major points here, very similar to Australia except for thongs being called jandals
  • Highlights: White water rafting in Taupo and caving in Waitomo. Very cool getting to see parts of the country you normally wouldn’t see, especially with the caving as it was through areas of the cave you only see on these types of tours
  • Best City: Taupo, very laid back and easy to get around
  • Worst City: Auckland. Perhaps we hit it at the wrong time of year but it was very strange to walk around such a large city with next to no one in it. Kind of how I’d imagine you’d feel if you had just emerged after a zombie apocalypse…
  • Must See Attraction: Lots of great things to see in the North Island. If you have limited time though Auckland Zoo would have to be high on that list
  • Meerkat at Auckland

  • Most Over-hyped Attraction: Zorbing, didn’t find it that much fun
  • Would I go back? Absolutely. Would love to go back and check out the South Island
