World Travel 2013-2014, Learning to Cook Khmer Food

Learning to cook Khmer food today was probably the most fun we’ve had during our time here in Phnom Penh. The days menu consisted of:

  • Spring rolls (filled with taro and carrot)
  • Fish Amok
  • Banana flower salad
  • Sticky rice and mango

We went with the full day option for $23 US per person which runs from 9am to 4pm and includes cooking all four of the dishes. The half day participants ($15 US per person) only cook the first two dishes. While the market aspect at the start wasn’t necessarily that interesting in my opinion (I’ve wandered through a lot of markets at this point, and yes the food is very very fresh), the cooking part of the day was fantastic. All of the dishes were easy to prepare and best of all, we got to eat them after we finished preparing each dish! If you’re interested in finding out more about the cooking class we did, you can find more information at the following link: Cambodia Cooking Class

While I don’t have any photos of the spring rolls and fish amok (there were too many people when everyone for the half day was there), here’s some photos of the market and the final dishes of the day.
