World Travel 2013-2014, The Lights of Feria de Abril

It just so happened that this year due to the later than usual Easter, the Feria de Abril celebrations in Seville would be running from the 5th to the 10th of May, which coincided with when we would be in the city.

Of course after visiting the Barcelona festival, we had to see what the original and largest Feria de Abril festival was like. I have to say, that I personally found the Barcelona festival more enjoyable. The Seville festival was beautiful, and much larger and more lively than the Barcelona festival – it was massive! There were lots of castellas and plenty of flamenco dresses and horses everywhere, but the problem with the Seville festival (for a tourist anyway) is that it’s really a festival for the locals. The majority of the castellas are by invitation only and are not open to the public. Unlike the Barcelona festival as well, there are basically no food stalls around other than fairy floss or candy which makes it hard to pick up a snack as you’re walking around.

It was still fun, and I would recommend seeing it for the lights and colour – but if you get the chance to see the Barcelona version of the Feria de Abril I would have to recommend that too!
