World Travel 2013-2014, Canada Wrap Up

  • Overall what we did: 7 days split into: 3 days in Vancouver and 4 days in Toronto from 6 September 2014 to 12 September 2014
  • Favourite part of Canada: Spending time with our wonderful friends Kathleen and Roger of course!
  • Key tip: No key tips here, we found Canada to be very similar to Australia. Canada even has the plastic notes now for their currency which is rather cool – I much prefer them to the paper bills (don’t have to worry about them sticking together, getting dirty, getting washed, etc…).
  • Cultural points:
    • None: Oh, other than don’t call a Canadian an American. Also, squirrels are equivalent to kangaroos in Australia (e.g. EVERYWHERE) – you will look like you have TOURIST stamped across your forehead if you start chasing after them… which may or may not have happened… >_< I think I finally understand why people get so excited about koalas and kangaroos.
  • Highlights: Seeing Niagara Falls – from all angles! We were spoilt, and it was absolutely fantastic to be able to see the falls from the look out above, behind the water as well as on the water in the Hornblower. Very cool!
  • Approaching Niagara Falls, Canada

    Approaching Niagara Falls, Canada

  • Best Experience: Of course spending time with Kathleen and Roger, and giving lots of pats and cuddles to their three gorgeous dogs
  • Worst Experience: Not really terrible, but probably dodging the marijuana smell in Vancouver – I thought I’d left that behind in Amsterdam!
  • Must See Attraction: Niagara Falls of course! Kingston is also very beautiful and Toronto is worth exploring (maybe not during Toronto Film Festival when there are lots of people though…)
  • Most Over-hyped Attraction: Hmm, can’t really say – I enjoyed everything we did in Canada
  • Would I go back? Absolutely. There’s still a lot of the country we haven’t seen. This trip was a whirlwind trip to just visit two cities, but we would love to go back and see more of the countryside as well as the mountains. We also have lots of friends to visit in Canada so will have to come back to be able to catch up with everyone again 🙂
