Vietnam & Indonesia 2015, Wrap Up
- Overall what we did: 16 days split into: 2 days in Ho Chi Minh City, 3 days in Hoi An, 1 day in Hue, 1 day in Ha Long Bay, 2 days in Hanoi, 5 days in Yogyakarta and 1 day in Denpasar from 19 July 2015 to 3 August 2015
- Favourite part of Vietnam & Indonesia:
- Key tip: No particular tips that are different to the usual in South East Asia
- Cultural points:
- Bartering: Always haggle, and as always, be friendly when haggling
- Highlights: The ancient town centre of Hoi An, beautiful to walk around and the lights and atmosphere at night was great. Oh, and probably the food in Vietnam – pretty good!
- Best Experience: Standing at the top of Prambanan and Borobodur enjoying the view
- Worst Experience: Getting sick most likely. The usual food allergies sprung up again and we both managed to come home with a bad case of the flu
- Must See Attraction: Hmm, can’t say anything in particular stood out. Perhaps Hoi An in Vietnam, or the temples in Yogyakarta
- Most Over-hyped Attraction: Might be a bit controversial, but Halong Bay. Yes, it’s beautiful but there is very similar scenery in Thailand (see here) where I would say the water is clearer and a bit less polluted… Still a beautiful place though
- Would I go back? Vietnam, maybe. Indonesia, unlikely. I rather enjoyed Vietnam and wouldn’t mind going back, but we have a lot of other places we want to visit first so it will be a while before we head back. Indonesia, it’s highly unlikely I would go back, and if I did it would probably more for transit to get back home
