World Travel 2013-2014, Delicious Taiwanese Food
First things first, beef noodle soup! Taiwan is known for it’s beef noodle soup, and although we had a bit of trouble trying to find some in Taipei we finally managed to try this dish at a restaurant recommended by the hostel owner in Hualien. As you can see in the featured image, the beef is cut into chunks and this soup base had garlic and lemongrass included along with some spice. Definitely different to the ramen dishes we enjoyed in Japan, I really enjoyed trying out this dish.
Delicious Noodles
You can’t beat a nice dish of noodles, and we managed to find some delicious ones in Taiwan. This dish was one of our first attempts at ordering at a local restaurant which didn’t have any pictures around. Fortunately for us once we were seated they did have an English menu available so I was able to order this delicious dish. It tasted a bit like Ja Jiang Mein with a sweet meat sauce over the noodles.

The wonton noodle soup was also rather delicious and not too far away from our first accommodation in Taipei, near Ximen. The one pictured was Takeshi’s meal which had the normal meat dumplings. I tried out the house special which didn’t look as pretty but tasted amazing. Makes a wonderful breakfast to warm you up for the day.

Dinner in Hualien
Lastly, our final dinner in Hualien before heading back to Taipei. We stumbled across this restaurant very hungry after our day wandering around Taroko National Park. Fortunately Takeshi could read enough to decipher ‘meat’, ‘rice’, ‘noodle’ and for us to figure out that pork buns and gyoza were on the menu. $120 TND (roughly $4.5 AUD) bought us four small pork buns, 10 gyoza and a dish of meat noodles and meat rice porridge. Probably our best value for money meal in Taiwan, and also one of the best!
