World Travel 2013-2014, Fushimi Inari Taisha

Today was our first day back in Kyoto, and it’s amazing to think it was nearly two years ago that we were last here. We planned to stay one night, which gave us the afternoon and then the following day to spend in Kyoto before heading back to Osaka. For the afternoon, we decided to head to the Fushimi Inari shrine.

This shrine was a bit of a surprise. I knew about the large number of torii gates, but I wasn’t aware how far they extended up the hill, and also how many shrines there were. A shrine that we though we might only spend a short amount of time at, actually took us several hours to walk around looping all the way to the top.

It’s a fantastic place to visit in Kyoto, and would definitely recommend checking it out – just make sure you wear comfortable shoes. You don’t want to be like the Japanese ladies, hiking up in heels!
