World Travel 2013-2014, Sampling Belgium Chocolat
A food related post again, this time from our time in Belgium. We were able to try a few Belgian dishes while we were there, and of course top of the list of things to try was waffles, frites (hot chips or French fries) and of course the chocolate. So of course, this particular post will be all about the chocolate. Takeshi isn’t a big chocolate fan, and I haven’t been eating a lot of sugar recently (well trying not to), so we just picked up 6 different pralines to try while we were in Brugge.
So here is a photo of the outside of the shop where we bought our chocolates in Brugge. The shops name is Dumon, and it smells incredible inside!

And of course, a quick picture of what all of the delicious chocolates looked like inside the shop. It was a bit of a difficult decision.

Enough of those photos – lets get onto photos of the chocolates we picked out to try!
Mango (Dark)
Dark chocolate (can’t go wrong) with a soft mango flavoured centre. Very delicious – the mango flavour wasn’t super strong, but you could definitely taste mango along with the dark chocolate which was a nice combination.

Ganache Green Tea (Dark)
Delicious dark chocolate ganache, and very rich in dark chocolate flavour; however, there was no green tea flavour. Very disappointing as I was hoping for something similar to the mango praline where there would be a softer centre with a strong flavour (and maybe even a green colour).

Hazelnut (Milk)
No pictures of this one as unfortunately they didn’t turn out so well. This one was just a simple square of milk chocolate with a hazelnut on top and a soft filling. Simple flavours of hazelnut, and not too bad but not a stand out.
Vanilla Lait (Milk)
Another milk chocolate (Takeshi’s selection) with a creamy milk centre. Not bad, but again, similar to the hazelnut it didn’t have a particularly strong flavour in my opinion.

Dark Mokka (Dark)
Similar to the green tea, I was a bit disappointed with this chocolate. It looked rather pretty on the outside, but inside it was just a strong dark chocolate ganache without strong coffee flavours. would have preferred this more if it had a strong coffee flavour in the filling.

Fresh Cream Caramel (Dark)
Last but definitely not least, and probably my favourite of the six we selected would have to be the fresh cream caramel. This one looked interesting on the inside with the different layers and had a very strong flavour with the cream, caramel and dark chocolate. Definitely worth trying, I thought it was delicious!
