World Travel 2013-2014, Aya Sofia and the Blue Mosque

Today was our sightseeing day in Istanbul (we didn’t do much else for the rest of the time we were in Istanbul), so today we were off to the Blue Mosque and Hagia or Aya Sofia.

The New Mosque, and also the Blue Mosque are beautiful inside, and would highly recommend visiting them if you’re in Istanbul. The interior decorations are fantastic. Hagia Sofia at one point was a church which was then converted into a mosque, and more recently into a museum. It’s a beautiful place to visit as well as there is quite a mix of Christian and Muslim art inside the building with mosaics and frescoes. I enjoyed it and felt it was well worth the entry fee (especially as it was our only paid attraction in Istanbul!).

I have to admit that I’d been feeling a bit run down lately and wasn’t super keen to be out and about, but today was a bit of a turn around. Although I was still struggling a bit to get through the day (lack of energy, I blame you!) our cat break helped a fair bit to improve my mood. I’m not really a cat person, but this particular cat was overly friendly. We didn’t approach it at all, it just decided that my lap looked pretty comfy for some reason and it wanted plenty of pats before snuggling up next to me for a nap. Nothing like a nice fluffy and friendly cat to improve your mood!
